Time Bank

Finally, here’s a brief entry to keep everyone up-to-date on the Time Bank project! We have a round dozen members in Pewsey, and several exchanges of service have taken place. People seem to be interested in using the TB for help with various projects, as well as one-to-one help – evidence of how time banks develop their own momentum and are driven by the members. For example; one of our members (Anne Stokes) is collecting books to stock a school library in Zambia, and Time Bank members are helping with writing catalogue cards for the books. A few hundred have been processed so far, and there are many, many more to go! (Anne has collected about 2000 books, and is aiming for 7000.) If anyone can help with processing, or transporting the books to Swindon (where storage space has been arranged at the Big Yellow Storage Company in Greenbridge), please contact Debby. Some TB members also earned credits by helping with the Parish Council litter pick on the 26th April, and the Parish Council are aware of the potential use of TB members for support in similar projects and activities.

Our aim is to set up local branches of the Time Bank in villages throughout the Pewsey community area, with members supporting each other in local activities, but connected to ‘head office’. This will enable us, if necessary, to draw on a wider range of skills, talents and energy from further afield. To this end Debby has been out on the mobile library (great fun), handing out leaflets with every book. She’ll also be attending as many village fetes and events as possible throughout the summer. Look for her near the ice-cream stall.

At risk of getting herself into trouble, Debby is shameless about announcing that we need men! Many of the services requested are of a ‘handy’ nature, and men tend to be so good at that kind of thing….. do you know any men with time on their hands? If so, feel free to give them the Time Broker’s ‘phone number…….
